From Forsyth County Hospital

Northside Hospital-Forsyth

The Auxiliary was organized on February 21, 1958 as the Forsyth County Hospital Auxiliary.  The Hospital Administrator, Mr. Bruce Boggan and the Director of Nurses, Mrs. Sara Blackwell met with approximately 18 women to assist in organizing the Auxiliary.  Mrs. M.P. Holbrook was elected President of the organization.  Other elected officers were: Mrs. R.J. Kupper, Mrs. R.H. Bramblett, Mrs. Crawford Roe, Mrs. Donald Long, Mrs. Joe Brooks and Mrs. Dean Barrett.

One of the first projects of the Auxiliary was to assist with the Red Cross blood drives.  Our memberships provided refreshments, including homemade snacks and volunteered to assist with such tasks as registering donors, arranging and labeling the bags being used for blood collection, taking blood pressures, etc.  Mrs. Agnes Wesbrook was the Auxilian who coordinated these activities up until her death in 1990.  The Auxiliary no longer directly provides support for the blood drives; however, the members are encouraged to provide volunteer services to the Red Cross.

The Gift Shop was opened in 1980.  The original managers were Helen Bryant, Ethel Nelms, Sue Martin and Alice Richardson.  The present manager is Lisa Fletcher.  All profits from the Gift Shop are given to the hospital at the end of each year.

Since its inception, the Auxiliary has undergone several name changes due to changes in hospital ownership.  In 1986 it became the Lakeside Community Hospital Auxiliary; in 1993 the Baptist North Hospital Auxiliary; in 1999 when the new hospital was built at it’s present location, we were renamed Baptist Medical Center and in 2002 Northside Hospital Atlanta purchased the hospital and we became Northside Hospital-Forsyth Auxiliary.
